Manufacturer overview
Dormer began in Sheffield, England, in 1913, founded by H. A. Dormer and L. Robertson. The Dormer trademark followed in 1924. The brand became part of Sandvik in 1992 and later joined with Pramet; in 2024 the manufacturer united those names under the Dormer Pramet masterbrand.
Dormer's technical heritage is associated with rotary cutting tools, particularly drilling and threading. The current combined business also covers turning and milling, bringing solid rotary tools and other metal-cutting solutions into one wider offering. Its history includes the introduction of steam-temper treatment to drill products. For dealers and production buyers, the relevant distinction is established holemaking expertise within a broader modern machining portfolio. Existing Dormer references remain useful identifiers when specifying a sourcing enquiry.
